Tim BL Father of The Web

Imagining a world with no internet, no Google, no social media, and no online shopping seems quite difficult. However, before one man developed what is now known as the World Wide Web this was reality. Tim Berners-Lee developed this world-changing tech while working at a European research lab in 1989. Tim believed in a system that would transform the internet into the incredible tool we use today.

Berners-Lee was born in London in the 1950’s. He grew up in a household where both his parents were mathematicians and heavily interested in computer science. Naturally, Tim was attracted to computers at a young age. Eventually, his passion for computers led him to study physics at Oxford where he further developed his skills in programming and computing. After finishing his education Berners-Lee would go on to become one of the most influential figures in computer science.

Before Berners-Lee, The internet existed but it was very niche and mostly used by scientists. Berners-Lee created a way for average people to share and access information. He developed hypertext (commonly known as HTML), the first web browser, launched the first website, and of course, created the World Wide Web. In an act of selflessness, Berners-Lee decided to make the web free for all which allowed it to quickly grow into the massive phenomenon we all rely on daily.

Today, Berners-Lee is a strong supporter of an open web, fighting against corporate control and privacy threats. Undoubtedly, his creation changed the world and to be honest I couldn’t imagine what life would be like without it.
